I am researching my grandfather and his siblings as well as his parents. My grandfather was born in Newport, NC 7 Aug 1898 and was said to have 20 brothers and sisters - we only know the names of 12. I am guessing that they too were born in NC state and since he was named Reubin David II he might be the oldest male -his siblings (incl him) are:
Reubin Workman II James Workman Shug Workman Robert Workman Jessie Workman Joseph Workman Edgar Workman William Workman John Workman Arsonia Workman Juanita Workman Cynthia Workman (Rumor has it that the woman that we knew as Aunt Cynthia was related to him, possibly his sister. She lived in the Philly area until she was 100+).
THier father was named Reubin David Workman I - in Rocky Hill, NC. After doing some research I found that there is not place in NC called Rocky Hill - but there wa a plantation named Rocky Hill. That seems to go along with the family rumor that our great grand father did not take the name of his master - he crafted it from his profession - a workman. We know nothing of our grandfathers siblings other than the fact that there were 20 of them - and nothing at all about Reubin David Workman I.
Reubin David Workman II moved to the Philadelphia area and married Ora Cassell and they had 13 children. He died March 10, 1962 and Ora Cassell died July 14, 1974. Thier children are named:
Reubin David III Juanita Jeannette Lawrence Ronald Alfred Reggie (Reginald David) Gwendowlyn Arsonia Edgar Gerald Bernard Gloria and twins that died as infants.
